Washington, DC - American Rivers Action Fund is today, applauding the bipartisan passage of HR. 2269, the Wastewater Infrastructure Pollution Prevention and Environmental Safety Act or WIPPES Act.

The WIPPES Act would require wipe manufacturers to label their products as non-flushable to help prevent sewage clogs, damage to wastewater systems and treatment plants, as well as pollution from entering our waterways.

“This is a simple, smart and practical step towards keeping water clean and affordable for all, and we are encouraged that it passed by such a wide margin. The American public cares about water and rivers and we are encouraged to see Congress listened today,” said Leda Huta, Senior Advocacy Strategist, American Rivers Action Fund. “We are hopeful that the Senate will find similar common-ground and act quickly and decisively on behalf of our water resources.”

Flushing wipes down the toilet costs people millions of dollars each year, despite being preventable. The bill was introduced by Rep. Huffman (D-CA), Rep. Kean (R-NJ), Rep. McClain (R-Mich), Rep. Kevin Mullin (D-CA).

The mission of the American Rivers Action Fund is to build a bipartisan River Majority and advance wins for clean, safe water and healthy rivers for people and wildlife.
